The jury in Bill Cosby's sensational trial for aggravated indecent assault have failed to reach a verdict in an outcome that has thrown the court into disarray.

The 79-year-old disgraced actor was in court to hear the stunning news, bringing to an end a trial that lasted just six days and a defense that lasted just six minutes.

Judge Steven O’Neill, pictured, said he had ‘nothing but admiration’ for the ‘zealous advocacy’ and ‘compassion within advocacy’ that the court and counsel had brought to the case under what he described as extraordinary circumstances'The criminal justice system went on. 'You did your jobs and I thank you for that when our county was under the eyes of the country watching how would we deliver justice – I thank you all for that and with that I bid you a farewell for this case and happy Father’s Day.'Attorney Michael Bressler, co-counsel on defamation case Green v Cosby who attended the trial with accusers Barbara Bowman and Therese Serignese said: 'The jury was unable to reach a decision and we have to respect that.'The DA has decided the case is going to be retried and we have to let that play out. Overtly arrogant in collaborating with the district attorney. Blatantly vicious entities that continually disseminated intentional omissions of truth for the primary purpose of greedily selling sensationalism at the expense of a human life. I am grateful to any of the jurors who tenaciously fought to review the evidence, which is the rightful way to make a sound decision.

We'll await the outcome of that process and leave it to the prosecution to do their job and Cosby's lawyers to do theirs.'Speaking briefly outside the courtroom Dolores Troiani, the attorney for Constand who took Cosby's 2005 deposition said that Constand was 'a very spiritual person who believes everything happens for a reason'. There were other victims in there who she was consoling.'Outside the courthouse, a statement from Cosby's wife Camille, 73, was read.'How do I describe the district attorney? Ultimately, that is the manifestation of justice, based on facts, not lies. He also took a jab at Gloria Allred, who represents 33 other women who are accusing Cosby of misconduct.

We have Andrea Constand she has shown such courage through this and we’re just in awe of what she has done and moved forward in this case.'We made the determination we had talked about today in moving forward. How do I describe many, but not all, general media?

As a very special friend once stated, "Truth can be subdued, but not destroyed."Moreover, I express humongous gratitude to counselors Brian Mc Monagle and Angela Agrusa for their hard work.

Mr Mc Monagle for his passionate and powerful articulations of truths; Ms Agrusa for her thorough research to bolster Counsel Mc Monagle; to Mr Andrew Wyatt for his unequivocal skills in public relations; to our team, who worked diligently and intelligently' to our staffs for their continuous commitment to our family and me...

In an often-impassioned performance lead attorney Brian Mc Monagle presented Constand's relationship with Cosby as intimate and consensual.'Why are we running away from the truth of this relationship? His contention was that Constand had leveled her allegations maliciously after Cosby tired of her and the relationship became 'work.'He showed telephone records that proved that Constand had tried to call Cosby 53 times after the alleged incident despite the fact that she claimed to have had no further contact.

If he had been found guilty, Cosby would have faced 10 years for each of the three counts of aggravated indecent assault: Lack of consent, consciousness and administering an Intoxicant.

They pointed to the fact that the central elements of Constand's claim to have been drugged and raped by the man she considered a friend and mentor had never changed.
